“Having spent the weekend helping out on the emotional freedom technique training with Karl Dawson, emotional freedom technique master trainer and founder of Matrix re-imprinting, I was once again reminded of the sheer power the emotional freedom technique (EFT) has to create change in the mind and body.

I watched with a heart felt glow as students on the course learnt how this incredibly simple technique is used to tap into subconscious events that lay ‘unprocessed’ in the mind, which create adverse effects on peoples lives and then use EFT to tap away and process the events in a matter of minutes.

One student had witnessed his sister being hit by a car when he was only 10 years old.  Not only had he held onto this trauma in his subconscious mind, he had also spent his life blaming himself for what happened.  This had led him to create a belief that he didn’t deserve to be happy.  Imagine the effect of carrying around the enormity of emotions like guilt, helplessness and blame for over 30 years?  Not only that, but to develop these feelings at the tender age of 10?  The weight of these emotions had laid  heavily on his chest creating a feeling of tightness, only to be layered with the emotions of all the other events he had experienced through his life.

When we experience something which causes us to feel anything from blame, guilt, helplessness, anger, sadness, shame and so on we store these memories in our subconscious mind and unless we process them, they will keep triggering throughout our lives.  In our early days of growing up, we form our core beliefs by making subconscious decisions about ourselves and the world.  These decisions are formed in a split second and then a like a computer that runs the software which is installed within it, these beliefs run our day to day lives.  A child being shouted at by a parent and told they were stupid,  will for example, form the belief that they are stupid and then spend the rest of their life not only subconsciously looking for evidence that they are stupid, but also by attracting and creating situations to run that belief over and over again.  Have you ever wondered by you keep attracting the same situations or people to you?

In the case of the student, we started to tap into the feeling of tightness in his chest which quickly led us to the memory of the car accident involving his sister.  By continuing to use EFT we not only processed the memory in his brain but also processed all the emotion attached to it so that he came to a place of resolution.  We did this in less than one hour.  He released all the blame and feelings of being helpless together with all the old beliefs he had formed in that moment about himself and for the first time in his life he felt a lightness in chest he had never felt before, so much so it felt alien to him.

This is just one story among the thousands of others of how EFT is being used to change peoples lives.  The conscious part of you isn’t going to change the mainframe which is controlling around 98% of your day.  Take a moment and consider who has written on your walls as you grew up.  Teachers? Parents? Siblings? Grandparents? School bullies?  You may be over 40 years old now, yet are still that 6 year old child trapped in a memory in which you had upset Mummy one day on the way to school and which caused you, in a spit second, to form a subconscious decision that you aren’t lovable.  Now at the age of 42 you still find yourself single and wonder why you can’t seem to remain in a relationship for long…….

EFT slices through memories, feelings and beliefs in a way that no other therapy can.  Not only does it deliver fast and life changing results, but it can also be taught to clients so that they are empowered to be part of their own healing journey.

Change Yourself – Change Your World!

10 things you didn’t know about Tapping – guest blog

Tapping, or to give it its proper name, EFT, is taking off in the world of complementary therapy.  Here are 10 things you didn’t know about this incredible technique.

1.  Tapping instantly calms you down

 When we are stressed, we engage the sympathetic side of our nervous system, leading us to produce high levels of cortisol, the stress hormone. Tapping on the acupressure points while thinking about how we feel sends an electro chemical message to the brain to switch off the stress response and tune into the parasympathetic side of the nervous system, the side linked with our relaxation response, giving us an instant sense of calm.

2.  Tapping works wonders on anxiety                        

Tapping soothes the body, engages the parasympathetic side of the nervous system responsible for relaxation, and fires electro chemical messages to the brain that everything is OK, taking the body off emergency alert.  It can be used in the moment to deal with situations that can trigger anxiety, to to unhook anxiety disorders and panic attacks, or to clear anxiety associated with a future event.

3.  Tapping dissolves your pain

Pain often has an underlying emotional link to it which is addressed through Tapping.  Tapping releases endorphin, the bodies’ natural pain killer and studies have shown that Tapping alone achieves pain relief far beyond that found in a jar of pills.

4.  Tapping reduces stress levels

When we get stressed, the body produces excess levels of cortisol.  The brain doesn’t know the difference between real and perceived stress so when any feeling of stress comes on, the body gets ready to fight or flight.  Tapping significantly decreases cortisol levels, allowing us to feel calmer, more relaxed and in control.

5.  Tapping helps you lose weight

That’s right, if you want to shift those pounds, get Tapping.  Tapping tackles cravings, helps you tune into what your body needs, combats the emotional reason you may be eating and improves energy levels.

6.  Tapping works on babies and children                                  

Tapping on children and babies who are upset works like magic.  Up to the age of 6 children are constantly absorbing information.  Because they don’t possess the cognitive ability re frame things that may upset them, a few rounds of Tapping can clear any upset.  Children as young as two can be taught to tap on themselves and children of any age can be tapped on.  Far more effective and healthy than being given sweets to calm them!

7.  Tapping helps clear your phobias

A study published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology in 2003 showed that one Tapping session with 35 participants was enough to demonstrate a significant decrease in specific phobias, for instance the phobia of spiders, when compared to conventional treatments like deep breathing. In follow-up tests 6 to 9 months later, those who had experienced Tapping reported even better improvements.

8.  Tapping positively modifies your DNA

A study conducted by the Heartmath Institute showed that when a person evoked strong positive emotions like love and appreciation through practices like Tapping, their DNA unwound and increased in length. Negative emotions, on the other hand, caused strands of their DNA to shorten and in some cases disappear. In other words, working with your emotions allows you to change your genetic make-up and your life.

9.  Tapping dramatically alleviates Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

A study published in 2005 examined the effects of Tapping on people who had been involved in car accidents and were displaying post traumatic stress symptoms such as flash backs, nightmares, panic attacks and anxiety.  Results demonstrated that Tapping diminished these symptoms.

10.  Tapping significantly reduces depression                                    

In a Swedish study, fibromyalgia patients who were given Tapping exercises reported a 29% improvement in depression symptoms within just 8 weeks.  Where anti depressants mask the problem, EFT extinguishes a dysfunctional conditioned response and deals with the symptoms of depression such as irritable mood, loss of interest in activities and lack of motivation achieving results that cannot be accomplished through conventional treatment.

Change Your Focus, Change Your Success!

We often get caught up in focusing on what’s wrong in our business or our personal life,
instead of seeing what’s right.

Side of Eye:  And I don’t like it
Under the Eye: I’m still focusing on what’s wrong
Under Nose: And it’s making me feel worse
Chin: But I can’t seem to stop it
Collarbone:  Maybe I don’t even want to stop it
Under Arm: It’s draining my energy
Top of Head: My thinking is making everything worse
Eyebrow:  What if I could see what’s right?
Side of Eye:  Notice what’s actually right about this situation
Under the Eye: Then focus on what makes that right
Under Nose: Can I allow myself to wonder
Chin: Ask: What is already going well?
Collarbone:  What makes it feel right?
Under Arm: What if I can allow myself to see what’s already right?
Top of Head: I choose to go in that direction! 

This positive focus is especially important for solopreneurs, entrepreneurs, network marketers, MLM and direct sellers.

How long did you last?  Many people don’t even make it a week with their new resolutions.  Some only last a month, and most quit within three months.
